Let’s be real, photoshoots can be scary, especially if you’ve never been in front of the camera. Figuring out what to wear, what to bring, or what you want your photos to look like can feel daunting. That’s why it is so important to trust your photographer when entering your session. They will be able to answer all your questions and help you prepare for your session! Do not be afraid to ask them anything, especially if is your first time. Here is what I offer my clients before the day of the shoot!
- Make the session a date day: Turn the photoshoot into a memorable date experience. Plan your day around the session, maybe starting with brunch, visiting a fun spot, or simply enjoying a walk in the area. This will help you both feel relaxed and in the mood, and it will also add to the overall vibe of the photos – when you’re having fun, it shows!
- Don’t overthink the outfits: While coordinating outfits is important, don’t stress too much about getting everything perfect. Choose clothes that reflect both of your personal styles and make sure they’re familiar and comfortable. Aim for colors and patterns that complement each other, but keep it simple, sometimes the most natural looks are the best.
- Have a playlist of your favorite music ready: Music can set the tone and bring energy to your photoshoot. Create a playlist of your favorite songs – ones that you both love or that remind you of special moments. If music isn’t so much your thing, the photographer can provide the playlist.
- Pick a meaningful location: Select a place that holds meaning for you both. Whether it’s the spot of your first date, a favorite beach, or a place that represents your relationship, having that personal connection will make your photos more intimate and authentic.
- Agree on accessories the night before: Before the shoot, chat with your partner about the accessories you’ll wear, such as whether or not you’ll both wear watches. Be mindful of tan lines and for the ladies, make sure to remove your hair ties the night before so there are no marks on your skin.
- Leave your belongings in the car: When it’s time for the photoshoot, leave your bags, phones, and other belongings in the car. All you need is your car keys, and your photographer will hold on to these during your shoot. A clutter-free session will help the focus stay on the two of you.
- If you’re nervous, talk to your photographer: It’s totally normal to feel a little nervous or awkward in front of the camera. If you’re feeling unsure, don’t hesitate to talk to your photographer about it. Your photographer will guide you, offer prompts, and make you feel comfortable. They will be communicating with you prior to the session with weather updates, lighting changes, and checking in with how you’re feeling. Take these opportunities to walk through some of your questions!
A photoshoot with your significant other is all about capturing the essence of your relationship. By planning ahead, staying relaxed, and making the session fun, you’ll ensure that the photos are beautiful and timeless. So, take a deep breath, enjoy the experience, and let your relationship shine through the lens!
